I have not been getting many bounces, and none of my recent emails got spam complaints, but for some reason my sending reputation keeps falling, so I'd like to try to learn the cause of this before it hits zero.

Would a low click-through rate cause this?

It's starting to look like I might have to do a "list hygiene" campaign, telling everyone who still wants to get newsletters to sign up for a new newsletter, and no longer sending newsletters to anyone who doesn't sign up for the new one. Would that be likely to fix the problem?

We are so glad to hear that you are keeping a watch on your sending reputation!

Since you have had your account for many years, the score had become inaccurate. I just went ahead and cleared your score so it is like new.

You should be good to go now!

UPDATE: My sending reputation has fallen steeply again, and I think temporary bounces might be to blame. It says I've had 47 bounces (including temporary and permanent) in the last 45 days, but the newsletters I sent out in that time showed no permanent bounces.

This could be a problem, since I haven't found any way to view a list of temporary bounces so I can see which email addresses are causing the problem. See the image below if you want to get a visual.

Hey Stephanie,

Your bounce rates is too high and that can happen when uploading a list from somewhere else. Neverbounce is a system to that cleans email list and shows you which emails have been verified and which have not to help prevent bounces.

Your score has been cleared and you can now send emails but further bounces will cause your reputation to go down again so the best solution to prevent this is to upload a clean email list.

Now that I have the clean list, what's the most efficient way to get it into my APWT account without:

1. Getting a bunch of duplicates due to re-uploading contacts who are already in my APWT system, or

2. Having a bunch of untagged contacts?

Or would it be more efficient to just compare the cleaned list to my existing list, and delete everyone who isn't in the clean list?

We recommend using the "Suppression List" as explained in this video:



CAUTION: You should upload the list of people you DO NOT want to send emails to the suppression list, not the list of cleaned email addresses.

I had a similar issue, here is what I did!

1. I took the list of emails and went to https://neverbounce.com/?gclid=CjwKCAiA ... dgQAvD_BwE

2. Once I was there I uploaded the list of emails that I needed cleaned up and it took about 20 minutes.

3. I got an email notification from Never Bounce letting me know my list was done.

4. From Never Bounce, I was able to get a list of the valid emails, and a list of the invalid emails

5. I took the list of invalid emails and uploaded that to the Suppression list in APWT. (I watched the how-to video by APWT)

6. Once I did that I was able to send out the email to all of the correct email addresses, and the incorrect email addresses were taken care of

I got most of the way through the instructions without a hitch, but the “suppression by tag” section seems to have disappeared. Does anyone know where it went or what replaced it?

Thanks! Now, to make sure I understand the situation correctly: if I send an email to everyone in my Newsletter Subscriber tag, and one of the contacts in that tag is ALSO in the "Suppression" tag, that person will NOT get the email, despite being in a tag to which the email is being sent. Is that correct? Because that's the outcome I'm going for.
