In version 4.2 and earlier you could add a new client and hit 'tab' to enter in each line item, now you have to select each field and click the 'check box'. Is there a feature I'm missing to add clients quickly that I'm not aware of?

In response to client requests and in an effort to simplify the new contact entering process, we have bypassed the initial screen and sent you directly to the contact page. This allows some of our clients who need to enter client notes before they enter the customer name and contact info the ability to do so.
We agree that it will speed data entry by making the fields accessible with the "tab" key on the keyboard - we are working on this for a future version.
In the interim, you can still access the old data entry screen by searching for the page with the magnifying glass at the top right of the console (where you search for clients by name). Just search for: create contact
We recommend bookmarking this page in your browser for faster access.
This is a temporary solution as we have deprecated this data entry page.
We understand the importance and we hope to have "tabbable" fields in the CRM very soon!

Another issue with the new contact screen is that there's not an option to insert a referral, and we can't track our referral tree that way. Is there a timeline on this project? Possibly in release 4.4?

If you are referring to the How Did They Hear About Us field, you can still access that in the Account Insights box when you are creating a new contact.
If you are referring to the Relationship Downline to track customer referrals, here is a video that describes how you can view and edit that!
