Billing/Shipping Address for Shopping Cart

Post by Cfisher2118 »

We get a lot of people complaining that their orders won't go through because their shipping/billing address are different. Although they have the option of just entering their shipping information, and then their billing zip code on the payment page, most people are used to shopping carts where they enter their billing information, and then have the option of specifying a separate shipping address if different than billing. This is just standard fare in ecommerce these days. So our shopping cart just causes confusion for them.

To be a serious ecommerce platform, I think you need to do this, whether anyone else happens to look at this and add their two cents or not. Plus, AVS cannot be fully applied without it, so it is also a PCI compliant issue as well.

Thank you so much for your feedback, it's users like you who make AllProWebTools awesome!

We are looking into addressing your concerns. To my knowledge, AVS does not affect your PCI compliance status. Have your received a PCI Compliance failure report? Can you send that to me?

Maybe it's not specifically mandated in PCI standards, but I've seen it in PCI questionnaires, and banking institutions such as Wells Fargo (which we use) usually require it, or charge extra fees when you don't. It is certainly considered good practice. But I'm more concerned about the affect on the customer experience. Almost every day (at least multiple times a week) we have someone email or call in unable to place an order online because they are not used to dealing with a shopping cart like this. There is no doubt we are losing sales because of it. For most people, virtually every time they buy something online, they fill out billing and shipping information.

I support a single page checkout with the option of separate billing and shipping addresses. Merchants should also have the option of allowing separate shipping/billing if they like.
