The Ins and Outs of Product Pages

Wednesday November 30, -0001 comments

You’ve got your e-commerce site’s skeleton configured.  You’ve got your logo and your banner and the images of all your products. Now you’ve got to go through the process of adding them to your site.

No worries. AllProWebTools has a product assistant to help customize your products page. You have your basic tabs to get you started and then there are a number of optional tabs that you can add later if you wish.

For the basic set up of a product you will need to fill in the following:

  • Product Category - Organizing your products into categories will keep your site attractive as well as help your customers find what they are looking for.
  • Product Name
  • Price
  • Cost of Goods Sold
  • Weight

The next page will ask for additional information.  Much of the requested information is optional.  Some bits of information will automatically fill in with the information you entered on the previous page.  Here is a quick list of the product information requested.

Column I

  • Order of Appearance
  • Max Quantity – this will control the number of products one customer can buy at a time.
  • *Wholesale Price

Your wholesaler clients will have their own login and password information for your website.  This way they are the only ones capable of seeing wholesale prices, when you choose to display wholesale prices.  There are also two text boxes for you to enter additional information about the wholesale prices.

Column II

  • Taxable
  • Product Type –downloadable vs. physical, service etc.
  • Sale price
  • *MSRP
  • SKU# - Stock Keeping Unit – for accounting purposes

The MSRP price will appear crossed out on the product page.  This will appear as though the product is on sale.  It encourages customers to make impulse buys. The site will also calculate the amount the customer will be saving.

From here you have several options to display the product:

  • Hiding the ‘Add to Cart’ button
  • Hiding the ‘Sale Price’
  • *Featured Product
  • *Local Product Only

A ‘Featured Product’ will appear on all pages of the site to encourage visitors to make an impulse buy.  By making a product a ‘Local Product Only’, the product will not be visible to customers viewing the product outside of your zip code.

What’s a product page without an image?  Buyers like to see what they are buying.

You can easily add an image for a product by uploading an image file in the Image tab.  This will be the headstone for your product page.  Also, if you choose to make a product a ‘Featured Product’ the image you have uploaded will appear in the sidebars of your website’s various pages.
